Do This When Things Are Falling Apart

If I didn’t have the skills to organize and keep my home in order when everything around me was a mess and falling apart, I’m not sure exactly how things would have turned out for me.

And I don’t say that lightly.

You see, many years ago, “things” were not going so well in my life. Everything, and I mean everything, was out of control. It felt as if I was on one big merry-go-round and I couldn’t stop it from going around and around.

But I knew one thing for sure – I wanted off the merry-go-round!

So I started thinking about what skills I possessed that could help make a difference in people’s lives. My mind kept asking the question; Who am I and what am I good at?

For the longest time, I had no idea the answer was right under my nose. It’s comical now when I think about it. How something so obvious is right in front of us and we never know it – until we do!

I remember feeling excited, when I figured out that my ability to “organize” and see things “orderly” was a gift that I could put to good use. But more than that, I felt empowered. Like, I got real hope that my life was about to change for the better.

I’m sharing this with you because I understand what it feels like to be stuck, uncertain, sad and all those other feelings that are wrapped around them. But I also know that my organizing skills literally saved me when everything else around me felt out of control and chaotic.

That’s why I help people, just like you, learn how to get organized. It’s also why I created Mindful Tools For Organized Living. It’s a convenient study program that you can do in the privacy of your home or office. And for a limited time, you can get the program for just $297.00 $197.00 PLUS three (3) complimentary coaching sessions.

Learning how to organize is an important step. A vital step that will help you manage through transitional times and give you peace of mind and hope for the future.

Why do you think people feel soooo much better when they’re organized? It’s really that simple.

2020 CLUTTER VISION

If you’re like most people, you’re looking forward to new beginnings and a fresh start this New Year.

2020 is the year of crystal clear vision. Knowing exactly what you want and taking action to build that life for yourself, while dropping all the limiting beliefs that previously got in your way.

It also means, it’s time to take a good hard look at some facts.

It’s a fact that CLUTTER destroys productivity – especially in the workplace. Why?  Because, the fact is, clutter is a distraction.

According to research published by the University of Chicago Press, evidence has shown that a messy workspace can be a self-defeating environment, meaning the less organized our surroundings, the more likely we are to do substandard work by taking the shortest route, or giving up on the task altogether. The studies summarized by the research make clear that disorganization portrays the sense that we’ve lost control over our environment, and therefore lack the ability be at our best.

Here’s another fact – there are many people who suffer from clutter and keep it a secret.  Why?  Because they are embarrassed, ashamed and fearful.

It’s for these very reasons I created Mindful Tools For Organized Living.

The truth is, there are just too many people who are suffering in silence because they feel overwhelmed from the burden of clutter.  It’s a debilitating problem.

Mindful Tools For Organized Living is a program and great resource that helps educate people on the facts of clutter and how to break the cycle in the most non-threatening manner. This self-help tool, comes with a complete video tutorial and manual to guide you efficiently and effectively.

There is also the Mindfulness Coaching Program that many people opt into for one-on-one support to maximize their results.

Let’s make 2020 your year of clutter-free living.  Begin today on the right path.  It’s time to see clearly now!

A Few Things To Stay Mindful Of This Season

I know how easy it is to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the holidays, so I wanted to remind you of a few things this season.

1.  Love yourself.  There’s a really good book/audio you can gift yourself with.  It’s called, Love Yourself Like Your Life Depends On It. Author, Kamal Ravikant is a beautiful soul.  I think you’ll enjoy it!

2.  Laugh. You know what they say, laughter is the best medicine and it’s absolutely free.  The holidays, as joyful as they are, can trigger an array of emotions.  There’s no better antidote for stress then a good laugh.

3.  Stay organized. If you feel like “things” are getting out of control, now’s the time to stay mindful of what’s important in your life. The Mindful Tools for Organized Living series will assist you with that.  It’s a must!

Oh, and in 2020, I’ll be offering a brand new workshop; A New Year’s Guide to Purging and Organizing!  So, stay tuned!

Till then my dear friends, have a beautiful holiday season and stay safe!

The Psychology Of The To-Do List

There are many benefits to writing a to-do list.  However, despite the gain, there are some people who will resist them.  Let’s take Mary for example.  Mary is an artist with a very active lifestyle. Her professional and personal life combined has her going in many directions.  Mary told me that she was starting to feel overwhelmed and some of her tasks were falling through the cracks.  When I inquired if she was using a to-do list to help her plan out her day, she informed me that “occasionally” she would scribble a few things down.

Although Mary was made aware of how a list could help manage her stress, she still resisted using one for a very long time.  She said, it stifled her flexibility. She felt that if she kept a list, it would tie her down and restrict her creativity. This is not an unusual response ( at least I found in my practice) with very creative people. They have adopted a belief that putting their thoughts down in order will somehow interfere with their creative flow.

Gradually, though, Mary came around. The busier  her life became, the more crucial it was to have some sort of running agenda on hand. Before long, not only did she embrace her to-do list but Mary even started scheduling some of those items onto a weekly calendar. In other words, she reluctantly become a planner.

Looking back, Mary admits that it wasn’t the actual writing of the list that she found so difficult, as it was the transition of doing so.  She now understands that she had emotional blocks surrounding her beliefs about to-do lists.  Once Mary was able to work through her roadblocks, she had a  different perspective of drawing up a list.  She is now in agreement that planning helps her get things done more efficiently and does not interfere with her creative nature.

Here’s the psychology of the to-do list – studies have shown that people perform better when they have written down what they need to do.  There are three reasons for this:  they dampen anxiety about the chaos of life; they give us a structure, a plan that we can stick to; and they are proof of what we have achieved that day, week or month. Simply put, the brain loves order. That’s why being organized makes us feel so good.

If You Are Struggling Read This

Recently someone who was struggling with getting organized wrote to me asking for help.

Here is some of what she wrote: ✍️

“Why can’t I get organized?
I want nothing more than to be free from this clutter, but I can’t seem to do it.
I start, I stop.  Sometimes, the thought of it, even though it’s what I want, seems so overwhelming.
If it’s something I want so much, then why can’t I do it?  What’s stopping me?
Please help me understand this.  What am I not getting?”  🤔

Here’s part of my response to her:

“There can be many reasons why you may be experiencing overwhelm, especially when it’s a goal that is very important to you.  Without knowing your situation entirely, I will try to give you a better understanding of what may be the reason behind your lack of follow through with getting organized.

There is a theory, one that I subscribe to, that beneath one’s clutter is the inability to forgive one’s self.  You see, buried underneath the clutter is a lot of life history, with raw emotion.  When we try to “deal” with the clutter, we are then reminded of our pain that was never healed.  This can be conscious or unconscious.

The truth is, we all make mistakes in life and have regret.  Unfortunately, people with clutter have difficulty with letting go of their past. They cling to their past with shame and guilt which only keeps them imprisoned.  They don’t realize that there is greatness in their brokenness.”

Friends, forgiveness helps us make peace with what is and discover self-acceptance and grace.  Forgiveness allows us to move forward.

I understand that coming to terms with brokenness and choosing to forgive yourself can seem like an impossible task.  But if you are struggling with your past, feeling overwhelmed and accumulating clutter, there are resources that can help you. 🔥🔥🔥

Sometimes Waiting & Holding On Causes More Damage

I love this quote…

Procrastination is a way of living in the past instead of the present moment.
~ Debasish Mridha

Far too often we wait on taking action that could be serving our highest good.

And by waiting, it prevents us from moving forward and getting our “stuff” done.

It’s like holding on to “things”  that no longer serve our needs or purpose.

All it does is keep us in a cycle of stagnation and clutter.

Waiting too long or holding on too tight can keep us in a bad relationship, a crummy job, and stifles us from pursuing our passion.

And when we live in the past all we do is continually reprogram our mind to stay there. That’s because its job is to ensure that you respond exactly the way you are programmed.  Your subconscious mind makes everything you say and do fit a pattern consistent with your self-concept.

This is why motivational activities, positive affirmations, and mindfulness programs are so impactful for people who want to change the course of their life.

So today, I’d like to encourage you to stop waiting and holding on and step into a new way of thinking…

What Keeps Me Going Is Feedback Like This

I love educating people on the benefits of living an organized life.  Being organized isn’t about living a perfect, orderly life.  Rather, it’s a lifestyle that one chooses because they understand the value it adds to their life.  Speaking in front of all types of audiences excites me because I know my topic doesn’t discriminate.  Anyone can be affected by clutter and all people can benefit from being organized.  If I can make a difference for people, even if it’s just that one person at that event, I feel fulfilled because I’ve done my job.

“At the Ridgewood Pubic Library, we try and do programs for our community that reflect the need and interests of our patrons. During one of my hunts for new program ideas, I came across Patricia Diesel.  She was scheduled to do a lecture on Organizing Your Life.  I had done a few programs on organizing your home, but I liked that her topic was not just organizing your home, but your life.

Patricia Diesel is a joy to work with.  She is calm, cool and poised but she is also warm, welcoming, sympathetic, and understanding.  The audience connected with her at once and she was able to get them to share the challenges they face in getting organized.

When we live in a world where storage bins are going up faster than homes, it’s time to wonder “What’s going on?” I can see that Patricia Diesel has set out to change that one client at a time.

We have scheduled a second visit to the Ridgewood Public Library with her for January 2020.”

Dear Patricia,

“Thank you so much for sharing your personal story with our community. Your pro-active approach to achieving one’s total wellness is inspirational and motivational. Keep up the good work of spreading your positive message of helping people to live healthier lives!”
