Facing Our Clutter Fears

When it comes to clutter, there can be many reasons why someone is fearful. They may be afraid if they let something go they may need it again or they won’t be able to replace it.

You see, although in some respects the clutter represents chaos and being out of control, it can also for some, be a source of comfort.  Comfort in a way where one’s things replace or substitute areas of one’s life where they may be experiencing a sense of lack.

It is understandable one may “think” this, especially when the reason they held onto their stuff for so long was because it helped them through some difficult times.  So hence, letting go, may trigger other emotions that can create a sense of loss.

Fear are stories we tell ourselves and there can be many layers of fear.  Underneath these layers is usually something we are terribly afraid of.

So how do we fight fear?  By facing it head on.

Here is where knowledge about one’s self becomes your best strategy to fight your fear.  Why?  Because it’s impossible to control something you know nothing about.  But you can control your outcome from what you understand.  Therefore, understanding what is driving your fear helps you not only confront what you are afraid of but helps you fight back and change it.

Let’s take a hypothetical situation and use this as a case in point.  Let’s say you have a house full of clutter.  Your desire is to be organized and orderly.  However, you have much fear when it comes to releasing your stuff.  Yet, you feel equally fearful that if you don’t do something about it, it will really get out of control.

One approach to overcoming your fear is to create a vision of what you would like to see happen for yourself.  An example would be, “I would like to have more open space in my home and have everything in its place.”  Then take a moment to visualize what that may actually look like in your home.

Next, ask yourself, “Why is this vision important to me?”  A simple answer may be, “I am tired of not being able to find my things and spending too much time looking for them.”

Another question from there may be, “How would this vision affect the quality of your life?” And an answer may be, “It would make my life more manageable, reduce stress and give me peace of mind.”

Now let’s look at this together.  You have a house full of clutter.  You want to be clutter-free.  You want to be clutter free because you understand that it will provide you with a better quality of life.  This much we know so far.  Yes?

Okay, now we get to the good part.  Facing the fear head on…

So let me ask you something, “If you want all these things that you say you do, what’s stopping you?”  And you may answer with something like this, “Well, I’ve tried many times before but I never succeeded.  And I guess in truth, I’m “afraid” that I may need my things one day if I get rid of them I won’t be able to get them back.”

Aha!  There it is.  The thought that you planted in your head that you will never be able to recover something is so ingrained, that it paralyzes you from moving forward with your vision.  And the truth of the matter is that the chances of you never really being able to  find, obtain or purchase those “things” again is pretty slim.  So it’s an un-truth you told yourself that you “bought” into.  Hence, causing you to feel terribly afraid.

So here it is.  The story of fear and underneath all those layers is an untruth.  In part, it’s been the story you may have been telling yourself all this time because in some way it was helping you cope with something that may have been causing you distress.  Therefore, “letting go” may symbolize for you a loss of not having something important in your life when times get tough.  “For, if not for your clutter, what would you cling to?”

It’s fascinating, isn’t it?

But the good news is that today, you know better.  By facing what you are truly afraid of you have the power to change it.  You know this is just an old story that keeps replaying, over and over.  All you have to ask yourself now is “How would your life be different if you were able to overcome this?”  Just imagine the possibilities for you!

This is an excerpt of Patricia’s new book – Life Recovery for the Cluttered Soul; how to face your fears and transform your life which will be available this Spring.

What Can You Do In 15 Minutes?

Tasks You Can Do Each Day To Lessen The Load

What Can You Do In 15 Minutes?

What Can You Do In
15 Minutes?

Spring is the season for cleaning things up and getting organized.

Although we may have the desire to bring order to our lives, it can still be challenging to dedicate the time.  I’m sure if given a choice most of us would opt for play time instead.

It’s not unusual to feel conflicted between wanting to get all the chores done yet want to spend quality time with friends and family.

So what can we do to lighten the load and still have time to do the things we want?

Begin with utilizing one of the Golden Rules of Organizing; The 15-Minute Rule.

Each day choose a task for 15 minutes or so and begin chipping away a little at a time. Before you know it, you will soon have everything under wraps and have more time for fun and relaxation.

Speed Clean Your Bathroom

Choose what you can clean for that day in 15 minutes – toilet, sink, shower, bathtub, tile, or floor.  A little at a time goes a long way to get the entire bathroom shiny and sparkling.

Vacuum Your Floors

Carpet, hardwood or tile – it all needs to be vacuumed.  Pick a room and clean away.  If you have time to spare – try damp mopping the floors to make it extra clean.

 Empty All The Trash

Go from room to room and empty the trash.  Then take it to your outside disposal or dumpster and be rid of it! Put a fresh liner in the baskets.

Clean Out The Refrigerator

Get rid of your leftovers, wipe down the shelves, and prepare your grocery list. Now you can go food shopping and put away your food in a clean refrigerator.  Nice!

Throw Out Expired Medicines

This is a good habit to get into – take inventory of your meds and get rid of all the expired ones.  Include non-prescriptions, vitamins, first-aid items, and cosmetics.  Just remember to be responsible when throwing away.

Organize Your Pantries

Take out what doesn’t belong there and put “like with like.”  Categorize all your soups, pastas, can goods, etc.  Have the labels face forward for easy viewing. Before you know it, the whole kitchen will be finished!

Clean Out Your Drawers

Today it’s your kitchen drawer, tomorrow it may be a desk drawer.  The point is, a little at a time and eventually you will work your way up to getting all the drawers done. That will feel good!

Program Your Cell Phone

Go ahead – finally make the changes necessary to your phone – change the ring tone, add or edit your contact list, download your pictures – just do it!

Recycle Old Books and Magazines

Do you have books and magazines that are just sitting there unread?  For every new book or subscription you bring in, the old must go out.  Recycle, Donate or Trash – take the time to view what you have and then take an action!

Are You Caught Up In A Paper Maze?

I was speaking with one of my students the other day.  We were discussing the recent success she was experiencing with her paper challenges.  She expressed that she finally felt things were falling into place and that she was feeling excited and motivated like never before.I asked her to please explain to me in more detail what that “looks like.”  She then said something to me that made me pause for a moment.  She said…

“Patricia, up until I took your workshop I felt like I was caught up in a paper maze.”

paper maze

paper maze

“It’s interesting, she said, I didn’t realize how much I was hiding under my piles of papers.  Through your encouragement, I was able to make a list and confront everything that at one point felt so terrifying to me.  Seeing it through, step by step, I was able to take charge of my papers and deal with the more difficult aspects of my life.  I feel like I have a different aura about me and now carry around positive energy.”

Finding Your Way Out Of The Maze
If you feel like you are overwhelmed and caught up in a maze of papers, you may want to consider taking my upcoming workshop.  The workshop will focus on your paper  clutter, what it represents, how it was manifested, and what you can do to resolve it.

I’m going to be talking about my “upcoming workshop” in a invitation only tel-class on Wednesday, November 19th at 8:00 pm, eastern time.

If you are interested in attending Wednesday’s class, please email me directly and tell me why you want to resolve your paper challenges and why you think you would be a candidate for my upcoming workshop.  I will then provide you with the access information to the tel-class, along with a questionnaire to fill out.

Please note, this is for the serious student who truly wants to learn and advance. If you feel this is you, then go ahead and email me now!  I will only be taking a small group of people, so I recommend that you act fast if you are truly serious.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Set Yourself Free!

How long have you been held captive by your clutter?

Clutter can weigh you down – emotionally and physically.  No  matter how you look at it – it’s a downer! The papers, the mail, the clothes, the endless “things”… It’s not fun and it certainly isn’t the quality of life you deserve.

Ask yourself this question:

Is this really the way you want to live your life – bogged down with countless clutter and emotional turmoil?

Free at last
Are you ready to be set free from the chaos and clutter?  I hope so, because I have designed a Clutter Rescue Workshop that will get those chains unshackled so you can begin to feel immediate relief.
Free Yourself From Your Clutter!

Free Yourself From Your Clutter!

What does this workshop look like?

It looks awesome to tell you the truth – and beyond that – freeing!  Just the thought of being “clear” minded enough to make sense of your “things” is invaluable.  That’s what this workshop will provide for you.  The clarity and the insight to be able to sort through all of this “stuff” that’s been going on for you and help you to make wise decisions on how to make a plan and move forward with it.  Yes, yes, a well thought out plan … now that’s exciting!

What will we cover in the workshop?

We will work on specific challenges that are affecting you personally (i.e., clutter, disorganization, procrastination, lack of follow through, productivity and motivation) and then discuss them collaboratively in our group sessions – this is where the peer support is invaluable. You will get to witness what your peers are experiencing, gain insight and provide support as well.

Why am I offering this workshop now?

Because I know the holidays are right around the corner.  I also know how clutter works with human behavior.  Now is the time to get started and get a handle on things to calm your emotions before things begin to get too hectic.  Then we can roll this right into your goals for the upcoming year.  Now is the time to begin not later!

Where is the workshop?
The workshop is on-line in a group setting.  You will attend with your peers for three (3) consecutive weeks at the same time each week.  There will be a meet and greet, sharing of each person’s challenges and objectives.

What are the dates and time?
Monday Evenings
8:00 – 9:00 PM ET
November 17, 2014
November 24, 2014
December 1, 2014

But that’s not all!
You will also receive three (3) personal, one-on-one coaching sessions with me that will last one hour each.  It will be for a period of three (3) weeks consecutively.  Here we will set up your goals & objectives, create a plan of action, and begin your next steps into success.  We will schedule these times together once you register for the workshop.

What does it cost?

You will receive three group coaching calls for one hour each and three private coaching calls for one hour each – that’s a total of 6 hours of coaching for a deeply discounted price of only $399.99! ($Over 2,000.00 value)

How do I register?
All you have to do is simply click on this link:

How many people will be in the workshop?
I am only accepting a limited amount of students.  So if you want to guarantee your place, it would be a “wise” decision to register as soon as you receive this!

What happens next?

Once you register for the Clutter Rescue Workshop you will receive a Welcome Package.  And in that package you will receive all the details and information that is required to get started.

Will this workshop really work?
I believe in my programs and my processes – I know they work!  Your job is to believe in yourself!

My Closing Message
I sincerely hope you will consider this workshop if you are truly struggling and want to change things for good.  It’s a great first step and the beginning to something better!  And I can promise you, I will always give you my best!

Boot Camp Organizing

Welcome to Boot Camp!

boot-camp

A training program that can possibly change your life!

Here is a quick review of what you can expect:

Why Boot Camp

You see, it has been my experience that people who struggle with task management, procrastination, and clutter have “something” in common.  That something is the lack of follow-through.

What I also found is that people sometimes equate the experience of following through with the word “discipline” which can conjure up negative feelings, possibly an experience of punishment or something of that nature.

Now this belief system can potentially limit them in this area until one comes from a place of understanding and acceptance, but I also found that sometimes, yes, sometimes, the best way to overcome the lack of follow-through is to just jump in with a “Boot Camp” attitude.

With your new “Boot Camp” attitude, you will no longer be saying things such as this:

  • “I can’t take it anymore”
  • “I can’t stand myself for being late”
  • “I’m so overwhelmed & frustrated”
  • “I’m so embarrassed I can’t have anyone over”
  • “I feel like a failure”
  • “I have too many things going on”
  • “I’m such a mess”

What is Boot Camp Organizing?
Boot Camp Organizing is a program that will:

  • Create awareness
  • Put an end to self-defeating patterns
  • Develop an action plan
  • Have you feeling like a winner

Now don’t worry, there will be no one dressed in army fatigues screaming at you, but there may be whistles, alarm clocks and a few obstacle courses… (lol)

Here’s how it works:

Step One

You will show up to a Group Conference Call with everyone who has enrolled in Boot Camp.  There will be a meet and greet and sharing of each person’s challenge and struggle. This will now be your Peer Support Group to access through your training.  Count on making new friends. (Date to be announced)

Step Two

You will send me pictures/video of your entire home and/or office environment.  I understand I will be entering your world and I take that invitation very seriously.  You can count on confidentiality, respect and no judgement.

Step Three

We will set up a private one hour conference call, otherwise known as an “Intake Session” to review your pictures.  This session allows me the opportunity to assess your living conditions and consult with you in a very private and personal way. This will be invaluable information for me to understand you better, i.e., patterns, behaviors, circumstances.

Step Three

You will be given a suggested plan of action which will take into consideration your ability to invest physically, emotionally and financially.

Step Four

We will engage in a one-on-one weekly coaching program for 30 minutes for a period of 7 weeks.  That’s a total of seven (7) sessions.  They will be set each week on the same day and same time.  In these sessions we will:

  • Set your agenda for the devised plan
  • Create next steps
  • Have deliberate target dates
  • Have measurable outcomes

Step Five

We will develop a “Best Practice” for you to then utilize moving forward in your organizing pursuits and maintenance routine.

Please Note:  Our time together is considered just like “Real Time.”  You have the option to engage via internet, telephone or Skype. This is a modality that I have used for many years to service clients nation wide and is just as effective as if I were there “live.”

What Does Boot Camp Cost?

For the “purpose” of Boot Camp I am making an outrageously low offer that you simply will not be able to resist…that is, if you are truly serious about seizing an amazing opportunity to change the course of your life.

Remember, you will receive a private, one-on-one consultation & assessment with me and seven private coaching sessions.  A value worth thousands of dollars.  But for this Boot Camp Special the price is an amazingly low price of only$399.00

Since I am only able to take a handful of clients at this deeply discounted offer, you will have to act NOW if you want to guarantee your spot in Boot Camp.

So show me your new Boot Camp attitude and…

ENROLL HERE

Once you register you will be sent your Welcome Package with all the detailed information and specific dates about Boot Camp Organizing!

So what will it be?

Will you be showing up with your sleeves rolled back, ready to jump in, combat your clutter and disorganization, and win the battle…

Or will you continue to find excuses of why you can’t enlist.

So what will it be….the choice is yours!

(Remember, you are receiving this Priority Invitation because you registered for the tel-class – so if you are serious about Boot Camp here is your opportunity to register to avoid being closed out!)

Tackling Paper Clutter

Paper Clutter Costs You Time, Money & Stress – and because of this I decided to design a program that will help you tackle your paper clutter and so much more!

paper-pile
The Paper Details
Getting your papers organized is more than just sorting through them and filing them away.  It’s really about what your papers represent and how you perceive their level of importance. Of course, some papers qualify substantially higher in the level of importance and priority but let me ask you something….

If there was a flood in your house or say a fire – and all of your important documents were destroyed, what would you do? Or let’s say there was an emergency and you needed to access your important documents right away – would you be able to locate them or for that matter, lead someone to find them in an efficient manner?

Let’s look at what constitutes important documents:

  • Bills
  • Passwords
  • Passports
  • Driver’s License
  • Insurance policies
  • Social Security Cards
  • Medical Information
  • Wills
  • Deeds
  • Marriage/Sacrament/Death Certificates
  • And the list can go on depending upon your circumstances

I believe how you manage your paperwork is a reflection of where you are in your life. If we pay attention, we can learn a lot about ourselves here.  Paper clutter can be temporary & situational of course, which will still require work, but if your paper clutter is constant, it’s a sure thing there is a lot more going on that requires you to look at.

One of the things I can tell you about being successful with getting a handle on your paperwork is the commitment to the process of it. It requires for you to take it seriously and look at it as a top priority. It also requires a plan that is conducive to your lifestyle so you can schedule time to tackle your papers accordingly.

If this resonates with you, may I suggest you look at your paper clutter from a different perspective and perhaps consider that it’s time to do something about it.

My program is going to help you with the purging, sorting, categorizing, organizing, filing, and managing of your papers.  It will also allow you the opportunity to be personally coached by me and then be group coached with your peers.  You will also be able to tap into the support of your peers, which is invaluable.

Here are the details of this program:

Intake Session:

30 Minute Conference Call With Me Before Program Starts

Group Coaching Call:

July 14, 2014 – Monday Evening – 8:00 – 9:00 PM

One-On-One Coaching:
Four (4) Personal One Hour Sessions With Me
Group Coaching Call:

August 11, 2014 – Monday Evening – 8:00 – 9:00 PM

Once you register you will then receive your Welcome Package that you will need to complete and fill out.  I will then contact you directly to schedule your Intake & Coaching Sessions.

I am only taking five (5) candidates – so again, I suggest if you are truly serious about tackling those papers – you should register so you don’t miss your opportunity!

30 Days To Successful Organizing

An Excerpt from “A Visit With Patricia Diesel – New Jersey Countryside Magazine.”

In addition to deciding what’s important to your life, successful organizing is about time and how you use it.  You have to organize your organizing.  People say, I don’t have time to organize.  I say you DO have time, no matter how busy you are.

30days

One of my tricks is the 30-day challenge.  Sit down with a calendar in front of you.  Pick a priority project that’s really urgent.  Maybe it’s the closets.  Say:  I’m going to give myself 30 days to clean out my closets.  Mark the end date on the calendar.  You can figure out approximately how much total time it will take and mark the days you’ll work on it, even if it means skipping a less important engagement or two.  The point is that if you give yourself 30 days, you’re not rushing yourself.  Noe excuses.  Schedule it into your time.

At the end of 30 days, celebrate your victory.  Give yourself a reward, some sort of treat.  You deserve it!

A side benefit of the 3o-day challenge is that you are really learning about how you are using your time.  Perhaps you can cut out something unproductive and substitute something you enjoy.

Sidebar:  Learn how to set boundaries and limits for the use of your time.  In doing so, learn how to say “No.”  This is a big one.  Before you make your decision about a request, ask, will this balance my day or put me on overload?

The Best Time Is Now!

Can you believe we are already at the end of 2013?
This made me think about the things I accomplished this year as well as my future goals for the upcoming year.
I was wondering if you were thinking about your goals too?
If you are anything like me, come New Year’s Morning I have HIGH hopes and aspirations for the year.
All types of things buzz around my mind that excite me.
Let me ask you now…
  • How’s that organizing project going – did you complete it?
  • Did you overcome your procrastination?
  • Are you managing your tasks more effectively?
  • Have you been able to balance out your life?
  • Are you living clutter free?
  • Have you been able to improve that relationship that means so much to you?

Well, if you’re like 97% of the population your answer to the above questions will be no.

But I don’t want you to be part of that 97% population – I want you to stand out and succeed.

I have a little secret I want to share with you – NOW is actually the best time to go after all you want – Do NOT wait until New Year’s Morning to begin thinking about your goals – do it NOW!

I will PERSONALLY  help you get a jump start on your goals absolutely FREE of charge with a 30 minute coaching session!

With this powerful 30 minute coaching session you will leave with:

  • Written positive outcomes for the New Year.
  • A new awareness of what is causing many of your challenges that’s holding you back from achieving your goals right now (It may not be what you think!)
  • A renewed sense of energy about the New Year to come and what you can expect.
  • A “next” step action plan for moving your goals along with commitment, motivation and passion.

Email me now for your FREE session @ [email protected]  and someone from my team will be in contact with you within 24 hours.

With love,

Patricia Diesel
