A Simple Concept

As I continue to encourage people to live simply and create an environment that is clutter free, I realize more and more what this truly provides for a person.

It’s no big secret we all have our “stuff” that can cause emotional clutter at times – but combine that with physical clutter and well, that can really complicate things.

Where does one go to “sort” things out?  Where does one go to “clear” their head? Where does one go to find “peace” of mind?

Think about that!

It hurts me when I see someone who is struggling with a cluttered environment because I know their mind is hurting.

A home that is safe, comfortable and neat reduces stress and provides overall wellness.   Having a place we can take refuge from when the world starts to get too much is a gift we give to ourselves.

Here’s a simple concept:

Our home needs to be taken care of so it can take care of us.

When we reward our home for all the shelter it provides, we are also rewarded in kind.

It’s really that simple.

Is Your Kitchen Smiling?

A kitchen is such an important place in the home, wouldn’t you agree?

A lot happens in the kitchen.

Think about it.

In the kitchen we stock our cabinets with utensils and kitchenware to prepare and enjoy our meals.

We store our food in pantries, cupboards, the refrigerator and freezer.

Some of us dine in the kitchen with table and chairs, while others take a more causal approach with an island counter and stools.

There’s an obvious purpose for the kitchen – it’s a room that provides nourishment for us.

But it’s also a place where we converse and commune with others. Or where we find solace in a cup of coffee/tea with our morning or evening read.

The kitchen is an important room.

Did you know you can learn a lot about a person by observing their kitchen?  It can reveal their habits, routines, patterns, circumstances and so much more.

For example:

  • When you are looking for your utensils do you find them easily?
  • When you go to stock your cabinets, do you have room to put your things away?
  • When you gather your food, are you aware of what you do or don’t have?
  • When you sit to enjoy your meal is your table or counter clear for your place setting?
  • When your communing with others or just by yourself, is it a relaxed, inviting area?

So what do you think – is your kitchen smiling?

Curious to learn more about your kitchen and what it may be saying about you?

If so, please join me in this upcoming tel-class. Once you register, you will receive a short questionnaire to complete. We will review it together in class.

Till then, I’ll be cooking up some good stuff to share with you from my kitchen.

A Lesson In Life

A Lesson In Life

Whenever my mom would came across reading material she found meaningful enough to share, she would clip it out and save it until the time was appropriate.

It’s one of the many things I loved about her.

I speak in past tense because my mom suffers from an awful disease that we call “Alzheimer’s.”

It has robbed her memory, changed her quality of life and invaded her privacy.  For this, I am grief stricken.  It is a disease that affects all – all that choose to love and support her.

It has been over a year now that I have carried around this beautiful message – A Lesson In Life .  I found it while cleaning out my parent’s vacation home.  I now feel a desire to share it with you.

My hope is that you gain inner strength and peace from reading it.

My best always,

Patricia

A Lesson In Life

A Lesson In Life

Everything happens for a reason.  Nothing happens by chance or by means of good or bad luck.

Illness, injury, love, lost moments of true greatness and sheer stupidity all occur to test the limits of your soul.  Without these small tests, if they be events, illnesses or relationships, life would be like a smoothly paved, straight, flat road to nowhere.

If someone hurts you, betrays you, or breaks your heart, forgive them.  For they have helped you learn about trust and the importance of being cautious to who you open your heart to.

If someone loves you, love them back unconditionally, not only because they love you, but because they are teaching you to love and opening your heart and eyes to things you would have never seen or felt without them.

Make every day count.  Appreciate every moment and take from it everything that you possibly can, for you may never be able to experience it again.

Talk to people you have never talked to before, and actually listen.  Hold your head up because you have every right to.  Tell yourself you are a great individual and believe in yourself, for if you don’t believe in yourself, no one else will believe in you either.

You can make of your life anything you wish.  Create your own life and then go out and live it!

Holiday Tips for Tipping

Holiday Tips for Tipping

Regardless of our economic state of affairs, some things simply do not change.  There is this expectation of us to be generous during the holidays to the people who provide us service – and rightfully so.

The question then becomes, who are the folks we should be tipping and what is the appropriate amount? In addition, if we are facing financial challenges, what can we offer in lieu of this?

If you think about it, end-of-the-year gratuities are a way to say thank you to the people we appreciate because they make our lives better, happier or simpler in some fashion.

Etiquette authorities state that there are simple ground rules you follow to help determine how much you should give, such as:

  • Quality of service
  • Frequency of service
  • How long you have used the service
  • Regional custom
  • Your budget

Now let’s take a look at some of the service providers that may be applicable for you to tip:

  • Barber
  • Cleaning Person
  • Hairdresser
  • Mail Carrier
  • Manicurist
  • Pet Care Provider
  • Sanitation Worker

With respect to how much is appropriate to tip, according to a poll by Consumer Reports, the average starting tip was $15.00 going up to $50.00 based on your history with that person. Here again, if money is tight and you have to be selective, it may help to consider who really needs it the most.

There are other ways to let someone know how much you appreciate them and to say thank you.  Sometimes a handwritten note with heartfelt words speaks volumes.  Home baked goods are always a sweet treat that people love to receive.  Remember, it’s the quality of your acknowledgement that makes a lasting impression.

Tip:  When frequenting your favorite restaurant, tipping the wait staff, maitre d’ and bartender are all acceptable.  You never know, you just may find your service and table location improves.

What’s Your EQ?

Are You Emotionally Intelligent?

April 5, 2011 – 6:oo PM – 7:00 PM Eastern Time

Here’s the buzz about EQ and why I am offering this class.

First let me begin by saying that over the years, it has been my experience that 99.9% of my clients can get organized…once taught.

This means, getting organized is a skill set that can be learned – at any age, any time.

If my clients were struggling before we met, it was usually due to one or two reasons:

1)  They were never exposed to the skill set adequately and therefore felt insecure in their ability

or

2)  They just didn’t want to do it because of a belief system they integrated into their life.

Regardless of either reason, the client did not feel good about their emotional intelligence.

I have found that once they were exposed to EQ, they had better self-esteem, more confidence, the ability to get organized and feel more in control over their life.

And it is for this reason I am offering this class – I want more people to feel better!

Real Estate and Clutter – The Time Is Now!

Real Estate and Clutter…
Are you allowing your stuff to reduce the net worth of your home?

Most of you know me as the Organizing Expert or the De-Cluttering Woman, but what you probably don’t know is that for over 15 years I have been in the Real Estate business.

Over the years, I have successfully marketed some of my client’s homes to help them fulfill their dreams of downsizing, relocating or upgrading.

In this recent economic climate, I have noticed that people who are experiencing financial and emotional duress are allowing their physical clutter to manifest in extreme degrees, thus creating their property value to drop.

Regardless if you are considering your options to rent, sell or stay put, your home needs to be clutter free and maintained to maximize your greatest return.

If you feel you need some help letting go of your stuff, de-cluttering, or anything else that will make your home more appealing to a potential buyer, please feel free to contact me.

I urge you to consider your options and not wait until it becomes too overwhelming and costly.

I hope the following tips help you!

Don’t Lose The Value

The two most important rooms in your home are the kitchen and bathroom.  Do you need to repair any plumbing issues?  Replace faucets or appliances?  Keeping your counters clutter free and a deep cleaning of these rooms will certainly make a huge difference.

Consider what needs to be refreshed and repaired to spotlight your home:

  • Windows that won’t open
  • Roof that’s leaking
  • Dripping faucets
  • Doors that won’t close
  • Painting of interior/exterior
  • Windows that need cleaning
  • Replace carpets
  • Landscaping

Remember – Less is More

Now is the time to learn how to let go of emotional attachments to your stuff to maximize your return.  De-cluttering is your best friend here.

Think of it this way – if it’s unappealing to you, what do you think a potential buyer or renter will think?

Play “friend, stranger, acquaintance”

Things that bring you joy and happiness and are truly essentials, are your friends – keep it.

Anything that is questionable, consider it an acquaintance and donate, give away or sell.

Strangers, that’s easy – just dump it!
