A Clearer Path to Well-Being: The Link Between Clutter, Hoarding, Health, and Happiness

There comes a point in life when peace at home begins to matter in a deeper way. Our surroundings affect more than appearance or convenience. They influence how we feel, how we function, and in many cases, how we care for our health. That is the heart of my upcoming presentation, A Clearer Path to Well-Being: The Link Between Clutter, Hoarding, Health, and Happiness, taking place at the Hunterdon County Senior Center on Tuesday, April 21 at 1:30 PM in Flemington. The program is open to Hunterdon County residents age 60 and over who are enrolled members of the Senior Center, and registration is requested by 4/15/26 through the Senior Center.

For more than 20 years, I have worked with individuals and families who feel overwhelmed by their environments and unsure where to begin. Over time, I have seen again and again that clutter is rarely just about “stuff.” It can reflect loss, stress, transitions, grief, physical limitations, or simply the accumulation of life. When a home becomes too full or too difficult to manage, it can affect safety, mobility, peace of mind, and overall well-being. That is why this conversation matters so much.

This presentation is designed to help people better understand the connection between their surroundings and their health. It will also offer safe, simple ways to begin decluttering without shame, pressure, or overwhelm. My hope is that attendees leave feeling encouraged, informed, and more empowered to see their homes not as a source of stress, but as places that can support greater comfort, clarity, and happiness.

I will also be sharing real-life experiences drawn from my acclaimed book, P.O. Confidential: Untold Stories from a Professional Organizer. These stories reveal the emotional side of clutter and hoarding with honesty, compassion, and understanding. They remind us that behind every pile, every overfilled room, and every difficult decision, there is often a story that deserves care—not judgment.

If you or someone you love has been feeling weighed down by clutter, this talk offers a meaningful place to begin. Sometimes the first step is not having all the answers. It is simply becoming more aware of what your environment may be telling you and learning that small, thoughtful changes can have a powerful effect on daily life.

I would love to have you join me for this heartfelt and practical presentation. To register, please call the Hunterdon County Senior Center at 908-788-1359 by April 15.
