Feel It – Bless It

How often in life do you stuff down negative emotions or feelings about something going on in your present life or about something that has happened in the past?

It’s a common human pattern to stuff things down. We do it to protect ourselves. You’ve done it, I’ve done it, people do it on a daily basis.

The challenge is…

As we continue to stuff things down in our lives, it accumulates and causes more and more problems for us.

I received the above in an email from Nick Ortner, The Tapping Solution, and it got me to thinking …

Eventually this accumulation of stuff has no other choice but to come out. When it does come out, it can manifest in many forms. For some people, their outward form manifests as physical clutter.

Clutter as we know represents disorder. Therefore, our physical clutter is an outward manifestation, a demonstration if you will, of what we may be feeling inwardly, i.e., confusion, turmoil, overwhelm. So it makes perfect sense when someone says, “I don’t know where to begin or how to start” when attempting to combat their clutter.

The truth is 99.9% of the time, people can get organized. Organization is a skill set that one can learn. It is the emotional aspect that prevents one from doing so, commonly referred to as an emotional block.

For this very reason, it’s important to take note that in order to deal with your physical clutter it is also necessary to work on your emotional clutter. Otherwise, it has been my experience, that no matter how many times you attempt to get things back in order, if you do not deal with the emotional aspect, the clutter will come back.

It is also important to point out, that the clutter will usually come back with a vengeance.  It’s as if the clutter is saying, “Hey you, I’m not done here…look at me…we have things to settle and I’m not going away until we do.”

This is the time when I suggest you look at your clutter with a fresh perspective. In other words, don’t fear the clutter, Bless it. Approach the clutter with gratitude and thankfulness.

Think of it this way…

Your outward manifestation is like looking through your very own Looking Glass – it’s mirroring back to help you. Look at it as an opportunity to begin the process of healing so you can begin to move forward in your life.

7 Habits To A Balanced Life

I was reading an article the other day that stated 70% of American workers struggle with finding a work-life system. If that is the case, then I would think there are a lot of people trying to find balance in their life.

It is understandable then why most people feel overwhelmed, stressed out and believe they never have time outside of work to do the things they enjoy.  It also makes a lot of sense why people are challenged with excessive clutter – physical and emotional!

In spite of these staggering statistics, there are those that have managed to live meaningful lives outside of their work with ease and a great level of satisfaction.

How do they do it?

Join me next Tuesday, July 14, 2015 when we will review the 7 Habits of People Who Have Achieved Work-Life Balance authored by Harvey Deutschendorf . I will share with you what these highly successful people have in common and how you too can create a life outside of work without worry of clutter build-up.

“It’s up to us as individuals to take control and responsibility for the types of lives that we want to lead. If you don’t design your life, then someone else may just design it for you, and you may not like their idea of balance.” ~Nigel Marsh, author of Fat, Forty, and Fired

Love Yourself

Dear Friends,

When was the last time you did something with your full heart and soul – I mean really put every ounce of your “being” into it? Can you remember that feeling you experienced – almost bliss like, yes?

For me, when I’m in a creative space, it’s as if my entire self takes over and I feel as if things are just naturally flowing – I don’t question much or for that matter even really think too much…I’m just really happy being me.

I think when we’re happy being ourselves, we get a clearer picture of what it feels like to love ourselves. Can you just for a moment, consider what it might look like if everyone in your inner circle of family and friends really loved themselves? Now expand upon that – can you imagine what life would feel like?

Awhile ago, I read a book “Love Yourself Like Your Life Depends On It” by Kamal Ravikant. I have since reread the book countless times. It’s a short read, but one that leaves a lasting impression. To give you a peek into the author’s life, look at what he has to say…

“I’ve been fortunate enough to have some amazing experiences in my life so far. I’ve trekked to one of the highest base camps in the Himalayas, meditated with Tibetan monks in the Dalai Lama’s monastery, earned my US Army Infantry patch, walked 550 miles across Spain, lived in Paris, been the only non-black, non-woman member of the Black Women’s writers’ group, written a novel, held the hands of dying patients, and worked with some of the best people in Silicon Valley. But the most transformative experience has been the simple act of loving myself.”

May I recommend you pick up a copy for yourself – I don’t think you will be disappointed.

With Love & Gratitude,

Patricia Diesel

Opportunity Knocks!

Consultation & Assessment

On-Site:
I will personally come to your home and provide you with a consultation and assessment of your physical environment and clutter condition. This process generally takes from 2 to 2.5 hours. Think of it as an Intake Session that has a series of questions and exercises for you to participate in. A suggested action plan will then be provided with a step-by-step outline. I will also take into account the investment of time, resources and finances it will require to complete the proposed plan for a successful transformation.

Virtual:
You will receive the same quality of care as the On-Site Assessment & Consultation except it is done via telephone or Skype. Prior to our time virtually, you will send me pictures of your environment through email or text. We will then spend 2 hours together virtually just as if I was there in person conducting the Intake Session. A suggested course of action will follow taking into consideration your overall investment of time, resources and finances that will be necessary for the proposed transformation.

*Please note that your overall physical and emotional well-being is always a factor when considering your action plan.

On-Site Half-Day Sessions
These sessions are available when it’s necessary to assist you hands-on. This can involve purging, sorting and organizing. These sessions are designed to support you through the process of decision making and provide organizational training – they do not include labor. All sessions must have the consultation and assessment performed before booking. Each session is 3 hours long and can be purchased in blocks of time from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm or 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.

On-Site Full-Day Sessions
These sessions are available for 5 hours from the hours of 10:00 am – 3:30 pm with a half-hour lunch break unless other arrangements are recommended. Time purging, sorting, organizing to de-clutter your environment for a full day is considered a more aggressive approach and requires a deeper commitment than half-day sessions. Arrangements for off-site hauling and labor are usually considered and discussed prior in the consultation and assessment that is mandatory before booking.

Virtual Organizing Sessions
In the comfort of your own home you will receive guidance and training virtually through the telephone or Skype. This can be done in blocks of time that are broken down into process segments or if you choose they can be done throughout the entire session. These sessions are available from 1 to 3 hour segments which can be applied towards getting your environment in order. This is a great alternative to on-site organizing as it provides you with a pro-active approach to achieving your goals with support.

Facing Our Clutter Fears

Facing Our Clutter Fears

Life Recovery

When it comes to clutter, there can be many reasons why someone is fearful. They may be afraid if they let something go they may need it again or they won’t be able to replace it.

You see, although in some respects the clutter represents chaos and being out of control, it can also for some, be a source of comfort.  Comfort in a way where one’s things replace or substitute areas of one’s life where they may be experiencing a sense of lack.

It is understandable one may “think” this, especially when the reason they held onto their stuff for so long was because it helped them through some difficult times.  So hence, letting go, may trigger other emotions that can create a sense of loss.

Fear are stories we tell ourselves and there can be many layers of fear.  Underneath these layers is usually something we are terribly afraid of.

So how do we fight fear?  By facing it head on.

Here is where knowledge about one’s self becomes your best strategy to fight your fear.  Why?  Because it’s impossible to control something you know nothing about.  But you can control your outcome from what you understand.  Therefore, understanding what is driving your fear helps you not only confront what you are afraid of but helps you fight back and change it.

Let’s take a hypothetical situation and use this as a case in point.  Let’s say you have a house full of clutter.  Your desire is to be organized and orderly.  However, you have much fear when it comes to releasing your stuff.  Yet, you feel equally fearful that if you don’t do something about it, it will really get out of control.

One approach to overcoming your fear is to create a vision of what you would like to see happen for yourself.  An example would be, “I would like to have more open space in my home and have everything in its place.”  Then take a moment to visualize what that may actually look like in your home.

Next, ask yourself, “Why is this vision important to me?”  A simple answer may be, “I am tired of not being able to find my things and spending too much time looking for them.”

Another question from there may be, “How would this vision affect the quality of your life?” And an answer may be, “It would make my life more manageable, reduce stress and give me peace of mind.”

Now let’s look at this together.  You have a house full of clutter.  You want to be clutter-free.  You want to be clutter free because you understand that it will provide you with a better quality of life.  This much we know so far.  Yes?

Okay, now we get to the good part.  Facing the fear head on…

So let me ask you something, “If you want all these things that you say you do, what’s stopping you?”  And you may answer with something like this, “Well, I’ve tried many times before but I never succeeded.  And I guess in truth, I’m “afraid” that I may need my things one day if I get rid of them I won’t be able to get them back.”

Aha!  There it is.  The thought that you planted in your head that you will never be able to recover something is so ingrained, that it paralyzes you from moving forward with your vision.  And the truth of the matter is that the chances of you never really being able to  find, obtain or purchase those “things” again is pretty slim.  So it’s an un-truth you told yourself that you “bought” into.  Hence, causing you to feel terribly afraid.

So here it is.  The story of fear and underneath all those layers is an untruth.  In part, it’s been the story you may have been telling yourself all this time because in some way it was helping you cope with something that may have been causing you distress.  Therefore, “letting go” may symbolize for you a loss of not having something important in your life when times get tough.  “For, if not for your clutter, what would you cling to?”

It’s fascinating, isn’t it?

But the good news is that today, you know better.  By facing what you are truly afraid of you have the power to change it.  You know this is just an old story that keeps replaying, over and over.  All you have to ask yourself now is “How would your life be different if you were able to overcome this?”  Just imagine the possibilities for you!

What Can You Do In 15 Minutes?

Tasks You Can Do Each Day To Lessen The Load

What Can You Do In 15 Minutes?

What Can You Do In
15 Minutes?

Spring is the season for cleaning things up and getting organized.

Although we may have the desire to bring order to our lives, it can still be challenging to dedicate the time.  I’m sure if given a choice most of us would opt for play time instead.

It’s not unusual to feel conflicted between wanting to get all the chores done yet want to spend quality time with friends and family.

So what can we do to lighten the load and still have time to do the things we want?

Begin with utilizing one of the Golden Rules of Organizing; The 15-Minute Rule.

Each day choose a task for 15 minutes or so and begin chipping away a little at a time. Before you know it, you will soon have everything under wraps and have more time for fun and relaxation.

Speed Clean Your Bathroom

Choose what you can clean for that day in 15 minutes – toilet, sink, shower, bathtub, tile, or floor.  A little at a time goes a long way to get the entire bathroom shiny and sparkling.

Vacuum Your Floors

Carpet, hardwood or tile – it all needs to be vacuumed.  Pick a room and clean away.  If you have time to spare – try damp mopping the floors to make it extra clean.

 Empty All The Trash

Go from room to room and empty the trash.  Then take it to your outside disposal or dumpster and be rid of it! Put a fresh liner in the baskets.

Clean Out The Refrigerator

Get rid of your leftovers, wipe down the shelves, and prepare your grocery list. Now you can go food shopping and put away your food in a clean refrigerator.  Nice!

Throw Out Expired Medicines

This is a good habit to get into – take inventory of your meds and get rid of all the expired ones.  Include non-prescriptions, vitamins, first-aid items, and cosmetics.  Just remember to be responsible when throwing away.

Organize Your Pantries

Take out what doesn’t belong there and put “like with like.”  Categorize all your soups, pastas, can goods, etc.  Have the labels face forward for easy viewing. Before you know it, the whole kitchen will be finished!

Clean Out Your Drawers

Today it’s your kitchen drawer, tomorrow it may be a desk drawer.  The point is, a little at a time and eventually you will work your way up to getting all the drawers done. That will feel good!

Program Your Cell Phone

Go ahead – finally make the changes necessary to your phone – change the ring tone, add or edit your contact list, download your pictures – just do it!

Recycle Old Books and Magazines

Do you have books and magazines that are just sitting there unread?  For every new book or subscription you bring in, the old must go out.  Recycle, Donate or Trash – take the time to view what you have and then take an action!
