What Can You Do In 15 Minutes?

Tasks You Can Do Each Day To Lessen The Load

What Can You Do In 15 Minutes?

What Can You Do In
15 Minutes?

Spring is the season for cleaning things up and getting organized.

Although we may have the desire to bring order to our lives, it can still be challenging to dedicate the time.  I’m sure if given a choice most of us would opt for play time instead.

It’s not unusual to feel conflicted between wanting to get all the chores done yet want to spend quality time with friends and family.

So what can we do to lighten the load and still have time to do the things we want?

Begin with utilizing one of the Golden Rules of Organizing; The 15-Minute Rule.

Each day choose a task for 15 minutes or so and begin chipping away a little at a time. Before you know it, you will soon have everything under wraps and have more time for fun and relaxation.

Speed Clean Your Bathroom

Choose what you can clean for that day in 15 minutes – toilet, sink, shower, bathtub, tile, or floor.  A little at a time goes a long way to get the entire bathroom shiny and sparkling.

Vacuum Your Floors

Carpet, hardwood or tile – it all needs to be vacuumed.  Pick a room and clean away.  If you have time to spare – try damp mopping the floors to make it extra clean.

 Empty All The Trash

Go from room to room and empty the trash.  Then take it to your outside disposal or dumpster and be rid of it! Put a fresh liner in the baskets.

Clean Out The Refrigerator

Get rid of your leftovers, wipe down the shelves, and prepare your grocery list. Now you can go food shopping and put away your food in a clean refrigerator.  Nice!

Throw Out Expired Medicines

This is a good habit to get into – take inventory of your meds and get rid of all the expired ones.  Include non-prescriptions, vitamins, first-aid items, and cosmetics.  Just remember to be responsible when throwing away.

Organize Your Pantries

Take out what doesn’t belong there and put “like with like.”  Categorize all your soups, pastas, can goods, etc.  Have the labels face forward for easy viewing. Before you know it, the whole kitchen will be finished!

Clean Out Your Drawers

Today it’s your kitchen drawer, tomorrow it may be a desk drawer.  The point is, a little at a time and eventually you will work your way up to getting all the drawers done. That will feel good!

Program Your Cell Phone

Go ahead – finally make the changes necessary to your phone – change the ring tone, add or edit your contact list, download your pictures – just do it!

Recycle Old Books and Magazines

Do you have books and magazines that are just sitting there unread?  For every new book or subscription you bring in, the old must go out.  Recycle, Donate or Trash – take the time to view what you have and then take an action!

Get Organized Like Your Life Depends Upon It

If you had to organize your life, I mean really organize it,

LIKE YOUR LIFE DEPENDS UPON IT

  • What would that look like for you?
  • What would be the first thing you would do?
  • How would you go about making those changes?
Deep down, I believe people really want to improve the quality of their lives and eliminate the chaos and clutter. Unfortunately, for most, it takes some sort of crisis to get things moving along.
I hear all types of excuses why people can’t seem to get organized under “normal” conditions, but then I hear a new set of reasons why they “must” get organized under critical conditions.
So ask yourself, “Is that what you really want?” To wait for a crisis to occur before you begin to live the life you really deserve? Is it really?
Look, I’m going to be brutally honest here with you.  It’s hard enough as it is to clear out your things and get your life back on track when everything is out of sorts.  It takes a lot of determination and support.  But compound that under panic conditions and well, that’s a whole different ball game.
So if in your quiet moments you hear your inner voice saying:
  • “I’m ready”
  • “I can’t take this anymore”
  • “I want to get on with my life and be free of this stuff”
Please Listen To Yourself!
If you are ready to create change in your life and want to hear the truth about how to go about it then you

Can Teaming Up Actually Calm You Down?

team-work

Can working as a team have benefits beyond moral support?

Researchers at Santa Clara and Stanford Universities have found that exercising with a partner enhances a workout’s stress-reducing effects – benefiting body and mind.  What they discovered was that when working with a partner, people generally felt calmer then if they worked solo.  They also concluded that whether they chatted or not through their regimen, the dialogue did not have an adverse effect on their results, and that the feelings of calmness usually lasted well into the evening hours.

In the Professional Organizing world – there is a similar parallel which we refer to as the “Body-Double.”  The purpose of the Body- Double is to act like an anchor, not an active assistant in the process of organizing.  The concept is to help the other person stay focused and ignore distractions, simply by being present.

Often, this practice provides emotional support, as clients will feel that having a Body-Double gives them permission to finish what needs to be done,  thus calming their feelings of overwhelm and reducing their urge to walk away.  It is a highly effective strategy that leaves the persona feeling empowered and satisfied.

Persistence – The Competitive Advantage

As a professional coach and organizing consultant, I deliver solutions for my clients that help solve their most complicated needs.

I am often asked, what is my secret when it comes to helping my clients achieve their goals.

The answer is always the same – persistence.

Some may view persistence as a logical consequence of one’s inner competitive spirit or inability to give up.  Yet, if we take a look at persistence from an emotional state that causes us to act, we can learn a lot.

Persistence - The Competitive Advantage

Persistence – The Competitive Advantage

You see, people assume that we are creatures of logic, but we are not.  We are creatures of emotion.  When a client is in search of a solution, I must first recognize their initial desire is being fueled off of emotion.  Logic is the secondary desire.

As with any solution process there are peaks and valleys.  That’s part of the journey.  But what most people find frustrating are the feelings they experience along the way.  Feelings associated with wanting to give up.

There are times when terrific progress is made and then things may come to a screeching halt.  A crisis may occur, roadblocks may pop-up, or you may simply feel discouraged.

As your coach and consultant, this is when my competitive advantage taps in to remind you of what you set out to do and why you set out to do it. To remind you of your initial desire so you can feel the emotion once again.

Simplicity Beckons Me…

Simplicity Beckons Me…

Why does one seek to create more yet want less?

What motivates us to acquire things only to release them?

Why do we work so hard but have such little time to play?

What makes us initially keep something only to let it go?

In answer to these questions, we may wonder…

Is it the perception we have on life?

Is it our belief system that we were told?

Do we get to a point where we then shift our value system?

Do circumstances force us to change?

Please know this…

Simplicity is a state of “being.

It is a process that beckons one’s soul.

It becomes an undeniable quest to pursue.

Question for you…

Does simplicity beckon your soul?

With Love,

The Beauty of Life

tony

“If I could make a wish for you, it would be that you would “see” all the possibility there is for you.  All the beauty that life has to offer.”

I remember someone saying this to me when I was feeling “out of sorts” many years ago.  At the time it sounded so magical to me.  Something that I wanted to believe in, yet so out of reach for me.

“If life is so wonderful and magnificent, why did I “feel” the opposite?”  And “Why did my life “feel” out of control?”  These were just some of the questions I would ask myself.

It felt impossible for me at the time to “feel” anything other than my pain. The continuation of my pain only created more pain.  Doubt, fear, abandonment, all of these emotions seeped into my “being.”  I felt emotionally crippled.

What I didn’t realize at the time was the more I would dwell on my pain, the more deeply I would “feel” the pain.  I had no idea that the more I continued to put my focus on something, the more it would manifest.

My quest began for answers.  I needed truth, facts, discoveries – anything that would give me hope for a better understanding of myself.  The deep desire to learn more consumed me because I wanted to “feel” better.

Deep within me, I knew that no one could find these answers but me.

As my journey to know “me” started to unfold, I began to realize that stumbling into the world of coaching was indeed no coincidence.  It was part of the beauty of my life’s purpose and plan.

Coaching has and continues to “be” such an instrumental tool for my personal and professional development.  The context of coaching breeds understanding, acceptance, empathy and countless gifts.

Within the framework of coaching pleads powerful questions.  Questions that beseech one’s soul for answers.  Answers that help you “feel” better about yourself and your life.

I now “see” the possibility that life has to offer and the supremacy of manifestation.  With this wish that has come true, I can no longer deny all its’ wondrous beauty.

Leave A Legacy

Perhaps there is no greater question we could ever ask ourselves in life but this:

“What is the real purpose to my life?”

We want our lives to have meaning and direction – we want to believe that all of our hard work mattered in the bigger picture of life.

In other words, we want our lives to count for something – wouldn’t you agree?

Well, I have to tell you…

The most rewarding part of my job is when a client tells me that they want to get their “life” in order because they don’t want their legacy to be full of “stuff” their family can’t make heads or tails out of.

They realize that when everything is all said and done,  they want to leave behind something that matters – things that tell a story about their life experience.

Most people want to share these memories with their family and friends in a way that is uncomplicated and simple to follow.

The challenge with this however, is most people never get to clearing out their spaces and putting things in order to leave a proper legacy.

Then of course, their loved ones left behind have to deal with whatever trail is left – trying to make sense of it all.

Of course, this can range from important documents and legal matters to years of family collectibles, etc., which in essence costs excessive time and money and let’s not discount our “energy.”

During Tuesday’s Tel-Class I am going to share with you why it’s so important to get your “stuff” in order and show you how to begin the process that will honor and respect your wishes.

This is going to be a thought provoking class, so please come prepared to take notes and ask questions.

Question From A Facebook Reader

Hi Patricia.

I would like to know the best way of getting a hoarder to realize she needs professional help, as they all think they can do it themselves, the “it” being cleaning out their homes.

Obviously, they can’t because if they could, their homes wouldn’t be that way in the first place.

I believe those were the exact words you said to my friend, and that almost got her to the point where she agreed – almost.

My feeling is that their perception is so far from reality that they won’t seek help on their own, that some type of intervention must take place, like the threat of eviction, or an ultimatum set by family or friends.

I would appreciate your thoughts.

My Comment:

Hoarding is a complicated disorder and everyone reacts and responds differently.

(Notice how I used respond and react)

Ultimately the person needs to seek help for themselves, but unfortunately in many circumstances the help is forced upon them (despite their unwillingness) due to eviction or unmanageable conditions.

Support groups are always a good first step to learn more and get educated.

I would be more than happy to discuss further with you at any point.

Take care.

Wouldn’t you agree, there’s nothing worse than feeling like you just wasted your time on an uneventful day.

When this happens to me, I usually find that I got out of my routine in some form or fashion, which ultimately sabotaged my time.

How To Make Routines Work For You And Others

Understanding the basics of time management is a valuable lesson to learn since it can be incorporated in all aspects of your life, from your work place to your home.  Therefore, routines are good to have.

If you want to develop a routine to stop wasting time, then consider taking this upcoming tel-class.

The Course Curriculum Will Cover:
